The Association of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (ARNBC) is the professional association representing Registered Nurses (RNs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) in British Columbia. What do we mean by professional association? Well you may have heard of the three pillars of a profession. The college (CRNBC) which acts on behalf of the public to ensure safe practice and standards, the union (BCNU) that acts on behalf of nurses to secure salary, benefits and workplace conditions and the professional association (ARNBC) that acts on behalf of nursing to advance the profession and influence health and social policy. Of course, there are overlaps between all of the groups, as you have no doubt seen with the policy work the Union has done, or the cross-over between the College and Association on some policy positions like Medical Assistance in Dying. However, in general, ARNBC supports and agrees with the International Council of Nurses three pillars approach for the betterment of nursing and health: professional practice, regulation and socio-economic welfare.
